Terms of Service

The service

Übungszeit is a classroom-style website for practising German — reading, listening, writing and speaking exercises at levels A1 to C1, with an AI tutor that grades your work and explains mistakes. It also includes a vocabulary library and flashcards, written grammar guides, video lessons, and a record of the grammar rules you have slipped on so they can be practised again. It is an aid to learning, not certified instruction, and its corrections may occasionally be imperfect. Use your own judgement, especially for anything important.

Your account

You must be 18 or older to create an account, and you confirm that when you enrol. Keep your login details secure; you are responsible for activity on your account. You can delete your account at any time.

Acceptable use

Use Übungszeit for genuine language practice. Don't abuse, overload, reverse-engineer, or resell the service, and don't use it to generate unlawful or harmful content. We may suspend accounts that do.

Free and paid plans

The free plan includes a daily practice allowance: graded sets, Helfen assists and speaking time, reset daily. Reading a text, browsing and drilling flashcards are not metered once you have an account; saying a flashcard aloud is, because it reaches the same paid speech service as a Speaking exercise, and on the free plan it is a small daily sample. Signed-out visitors get a smaller allowance still. The current numbers are published on the Handbook and Pricing pages; we may adjust them, and will say so there. Scholar ($15/month) and Master ($29/month) are paid subscriptions with higher daily allowances and more unlocked content, billed monthly in US dollars. Paid subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time to stop future charges — your plan then remains active until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Payments are processed by Paddle, which acts as our merchant of record: Paddle is the seller of record for your purchase, issues your invoice and collects any applicable tax. You can upgrade to Master from the Pricing page while signed in, and cancel at any time from your account. Paddle prorates an upgrade against your current billing cycle and shows you the amount before you confirm; your renewal date does not move. Moving down from Master to Scholar is arranged by email — write to hallo@ubungszeit.com and we will do it for you, so the credit for your unused time is applied properly. The exact amount is shown before you confirm and on your invoice, which is issued by Paddle and governs. Refunds, cancellations and plan changes are described in our Refund & Cancellation policy.

Availability & liability

We aim to keep Übungszeit running smoothly but can't promise it will always be available or error-free, and we may change or discontinue features. The service is provided “as is” to the extent permitted by law.

To the extent the law allows it, our total liability for any claim connected to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim — for free use, that is zero. This cap does not apply where the law does not allow liability to be limited, and nothing here removes rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection law.

Governing law & disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India. If you use Übungszeit as a consumer, you additionally keep every protection of the consumer law of the country you live in that cannot be contracted away, and you may bring a dispute before your own local courts where that law says so. If something goes wrong, please email us first — nearly everything is fixable in one message.
