No. As a guest you can browse everything, grade up to 3 sample sets a day — Reading and Listening samples at every level, Writing and Speaking samples at A1 and A2 — drill 1 round of flashcards, and say those words out loud 3 times — the microphone sits under the card and has its OWN allowance, so it keeps working after the flashcard round is done. A free account opens all Reading and Listening sets, makes flashcard drilling unlimited, and raises you to 5 graded sets and 5 spoken tries a day — and Helfen starts remembering your progress and weak spots.

Each account gets a daily allowance of graded sets, Helfen assists and speaking minutes. Submitting an exercise for grading counts as one set; each question you ask Helfen counts as one assist; speaking minutes count while you talk, and also when you say a flashcard out loud. Reading a text on screen, browsing and replaying audio are always free, and drilling flashcards is unlimited once you have an account — as a guest it is 1 round a day. Otherwise it is submitting a set for grading that counts, in every section, Reading included. Your remaining allowance is shown on the Classrooms and Progress pages, and everything resets at midnight (UTC).

No — it's the practice they don't give you. Keep learning German however you like; come here to actually use it, across all four skills, and get corrected kindly.

Ask Helfen anything from the corner of any page — a word, a rule, a hint — and get a warm answer with examples. When you make a mistake in an exercise, Helfen explains it clearly rather than just marking it wrong. In speaking, you choose whether corrections come live or at the end, and if you drift away from the scenario, Helfen gently steers you back.

No. Übungszeit follows the CEFR levels so your practice lines up with how German is taught, but it is not exam preparation and makes no certification promises. It is built to help you understand and absorb the language.

We write it all ourselves — every story, exercise and prompt is original to Übungszeit, chosen to be interesting and relatable, because that is how a language actually sticks.

Your account and practice history live in the European Union (Frankfurt). Speech recognition runs on EU servers; your speech is transcribed to text, and neither the recording nor the transcript is stored — a finished set records which rules you slipped on, never your words. The text of what you write or say is then sent to our AI provider so it can be graded and explained, and that provider may process it outside the EU. The Privacy page names every provider and what each one sees.

Both paid plans unlock the same thing — every Writing and Speaking set at every level. They differ in how much you can do each day. Scholar ($15/mo) gives 15 graded sets, 30 Helfen assists and 8 minutes of speaking a day; Master ($29/mo) gives 30 graded sets, 45 assists and 16 minutes of speaking. Both keep everything in Free. Drilling flashcards stays unlimited once you have an account; saying them aloud is capped at 5 a day on Free, while Scholar and Master lift that cap and let your speaking minutes be the only limit. Both plans also open every Recess game, with no daily cap.
