Refund & Cancellation Policy

Clear terms for our paid plans — no surprises.

Last updated: August 2026

What you are buying

Scholar and Master are monthly subscriptions to the Übungszeit German practice service. They are billed in US dollars (USD) and renew automatically each month until you cancel. Prices and what each plan includes are shown on our Pricing page. There is always a free plan, so you can try the service before paying anything.

Who processes payments

Payments are handled by Paddle, our merchant of record. Paddle appears on your statement, issues your invoices, collects any applicable tax, and processes refunds. Your card details go to Paddle directly and are never stored by Übungszeit.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time — from your Account page, or by emailing hallo@ubungszeit.com. When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again. No cancellation fees, ever.

Changing your plan (upgrade or downgrade)

Upgrading (Scholar → Master) is self-serve: do it from the Pricing page while signed in. It does not move your renewal date — it does not restart your monthly cycle or add extra days — and your new daily limits apply immediately.

Moving down (Master → Scholar) we handle by hand. Email hallo@ubungszeit.com and we will arrange it, usually the same day. We do it this way on purpose: a downgrade leaves you with credit for Master time you have not used, and we would rather a person made sure that lands correctly than have an automatic switch get it wrong. Nothing is lost by asking — your Master plan keeps running until it is done.

  • Upgrade (Scholar → Master): Paddle works out the difference against your current billing cycle and collects it straight away, so you are not charged for a fresh month. The plan then renews at the Master price.
  • Downgrade (Master → Scholar): arranged by email, as above. The change works out in your favour, so it produces a credit rather than a charge; we will tell you the figure and how it is applied before anything happens.
  • For an upgrade, the exact figure is Paddle's, shown to you before you confirm and again on the invoice it issues. That invoice is the authoritative record — if it ever disagrees with this page, the invoice is right and we want to hear about it.
  • Today's already-used allowance carries over when you switch, so a switch never grants a second full day of usage.

Refunds

Every refund request is reviewed individually and, once we confirm it is a genuine request, it is approved and processed. We are fair and generous about this — the review simply lets us catch fraud and abuse, not turn away honest customers.

  • If something isn't right, contact us within 14 days of a charge with a short note about what happened. Genuine requests in this window are refunded.
  • We always refund billing errors and duplicate or accidental charges in full, regardless of timing.
  • After 14 days, an active subscription is generally non-refundable for the current month, but you can cancel to stop all future charges.
  • Refunds are returned to your original payment method by Paddle. How long that takes is between Paddle and your bank — we cannot promise a number, and anyone who does is guessing.

None of the above limits any mandatory rights you have under your local consumer-protection law; where those give you more, they apply.
